New Delhi: Addressing the security concerns of women students who work till late in the evening in research laboratories and libraries on the North Campus, Delhi University is going to provide security escorts on a specified route from 8.30pm on Friday. Two university security officials will escort the students to their residence and hostels in two shifts.
The students, in their feedback forms and also during their interaction with the vice-chancellor in February, had said that they feel unsafe while walking at night on the campus and the university administration had promised to address the issue.
“Now the students will be escorted from various points on the North Campus to their residence and hostels twice – first at 8.30pm and then again at 9pm. The students can gather at the decided points from where the security will escort them,” said the proctor of DU, professor H P Singh.
The security service will cover areas such as Chhatra Marg, university hostels, Vijay Nagar, Patel Chest, Hudson Lanes, among others on the North Campus area.
