Jalandhar family comes to claim parcel body

Neeraj Chauhan TNN

NewDelhi:AJalandhar family has approached the Delhi Police, saying the girl whose body was sent in a parcel to Ajmer could be their daughter. Police said the family brought photographs of their daughter whose features match 90% with that of the victim.
The highly decomposed body of the girl, said to be 22 to 24 years old, was found in a tin container at the office of a cargo company after workers complained of foul smell coming out of the box. The parcel was sent from Old Delhi.
The Jalandhar family is being taken to Kishangarh in Ajmer district, where the victim’s body lies in a freezer at the Yagya Narayan hospital. Two family members came to the Lahori Gate police station after learning about the murder and claimed that their daughter was missing since March 13.
Contrary to earlier reports, investigators said CCTV footage at the Milap Transport Company in Sadar Bazar has revealed that the suspected killer himself brought the parcel to the cargo office in a rickshaw. “The blurred footage shows the rickshaw-puller accompanied by another man bringing the parcel to the office,” a police source said.
“They came into the office at 7.48pm and left at 8.08pm on April 3, when the India-Sri Lanka World Cup final was on,” the source said. The killer seems to have chosen the day of the final knowing that the staffers at the cargo office would be busy watching the match and would not bother to verify the address and name of sender.
Police suspect that the victim, who has 15 stab wound in the abdomen, was killed by a jilted lover. The killer used acid to burn the victim’s face and right hand, probably to make identification difficult, the cops said.
